There is a common misunderstanding among many today as to exactly who will be saved on the Day of Judgment. What about those who are Buddhists, Hindus, Moslems or Jews?  Do these other religions just represent different paths to heaven as many believe? Will God judge members of those religions based on their teachings and whether they are following them or not? What about men who are not members of any religion, but are morally upright men? Will they be judged as righteous men in God’s sight without any religious affiliation? These are questions that are frequently asked.

God clearly answers these questions in the Bible so that we need not have doubts.  Notice the following:

            Acts 4:10-12

“let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

God tells us in this passage that Jesus is the only name under heaven whereby men can be saved.  We are told that “there is no other name given” which will save us. The passage further says that there is salvation in no other but Jesus. This concept was taught by Jesus himself when he was on the earth.

            John 14:6

Jesus said unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, except through me.’”

When He said that He is “the way,” He is referring the way to the Father in heaven. When He said that He is “the truth,” He is contrasting Himself with all other religious teachers. When He said that He is “the life,” He is talking about how He is the source of eternal life. Finally, He said that if you desire to come to the Father, you can only do so through Him! No man can come to the Father except through Jesus. So, where does that leave anyone who does not believe that Jesus is the Son of God? That leaves them believing in another way to the Father rather than through Jesus. Jesus did in fact discuss the many ways that exist in religion, though only one is the correct way.

            Matthew 7:13-14

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Jesus said that the way to destruction is “broad” and has a “wide” gate. His point is that there are many religions that claim to point men to the way to Heaven, though in reality they only lead to “destruction.”    Jesus further said that the true way to “life” has a “narrow” gate. His point was simply that there is only one way to salvation and it is through him. As long as we follow Jesus, we need not worry about our eternal salvation. When we follow Jesus and walk in his way, he will lead us to the Father and ultimately to a home with Him in Heaven.
